Large Publishers Love eROI - More Industry Leaders Join

eROI is extremely proud of our great connections to the publishing industry with partners/clients such as Mediapost, Modern Luxury, Dolan Media,Oregon Business Magazine,The Oregonian Newspaper and others.

Joining us in January was Conde Nast Publications for subscription generation.

Publishers recognize the value in eROI, with full range of knowledge, but also the benefit of the pricing model where we don't add charges for things like APIs, Support, Training, and our RSS to emailROI system.

We hope to continue to grow our great family of publishers in 2008.

eROI Takes Three Awards - Wacom Campaign Hits Trifecta

eROI Wins eec Email Marketing Award, AMA-MAX Award, and MarketingSherpa Email Summit Gold Award.

Winning one award would have been great, but 3 awards in 3 weeks was an amazing honor for the eROI / Wacom PowerofthePens.com campaign.

Being the winner of the first Email Experience Council award for an email marketing campaign was a huge honor for eROI this month. Voted on by eec members and held February 11th in San Diego, eROI and our client Wacom accepted the prestigious award for PowerOfThePens.com. We had some stiff competition with AOL, Genetech, and REI, but came out on top with the members all voting.

At the American Marketing Association - Oregon, eROI was honored with the AMA-MAX Award for Best Web Campaign. This is our second AMA-MAX award in two years for our work on client campaigns.

This campaign was the start of bigger things for Wacom, and a testing ground for development of an online community and the power of social media. eROI has already begun additional work, building off this strong start and will be releasing new work for the Wacom Community over the next 9 months.

PowerOfThePens.com was also the recipient of a Gold Medal for Best Promotional Blast - Direct Sale or Lead Gen Offer (Consumer) at MarketingSherpa's Third Annual Email Marketing Summit, held on February 26th in Miami.

We heard it from Google before we heard it from MarketingSherpa. They can send us our award, but it would have been fun to be there to accept it. However, with the power blackout that hit Miami, maybe it was better to be in Portland working on new client email marketing campaigns.

eROI Wins AMA MAX Award for "Best Web Campaign" - Wacom Power of the Pens

February 22, 2008

Here is the email I sent to the eROI team after our big win last night for the only category we submitted to - Best of Web. This is the second award that we've won in collaboration with our client Wacom for a really powerful community site we built called "Power of the Pens."

Subject: Huge congrats to eROI for winning AMA MAX Award for Best Web Campaign (Wacom Power of the Pens)

The entire team,
We should be very proud of our accomplishments. When I've had one on one discussions with each of you last year, nearly everyone said that collectively you wanted to make your mark on the world through inspiring creative and we're finally getting recognized for it. For the second time in a row (2 for 2), we won among all finalists the AMA Award for Marketing Excellence for Best Web Campaign for the Wacom Power of the Pens website which built a powerful community online where the target audience (designers) truly connected with one another in that community.

Needless to say, we celebrated heartily last night.

Great work to all,
RB

Day #2 of Visit to the NYC office

February 19, 2008

Met with a young entrepreneur, Noah Glass, 26 yrs old, who founded a super innovative startup called GoMobo, where mobile phone users (basically 1/2 of the world) can purchase food at a restaurant from their car, cab, train, or on foot and then go pick it up without waiting in line. It's the perfect solution for Manhattan where waits can be long and everyone is on a mobile device. In the past couple years, Noah and GoMobo have been covered on ABC News, Good Morning America, Business Week, Wall Street Journal, and Inc. magazine. They've got 5,000 active users/consumers in their network and the company is really taking off.

On the Inc. magazine topic, I met an Inc. reporter, Athena, at the Inc. 500 Conference in 2007 in Chicago, and reconnected with her at the new Inc. office at 7 World Trade Center. Wow - the views from their office were unbelievable - and very cool to watch Ground Zero start to come back to life with some major developments happening quickly. I'm a huge fan of Inc. magazine and their annual Inc. 500 conference is really helpful for connecting entrepreneurs and giving some new perspective on growing your business the right way. Athena asked a lot of great questions about some of the innovative Oregon companies that I mentioned to her - Plas2Fuel and a network of entrepreneurs in a group we started called Starve Ups.

A friend sent me this awesome video on the "best prank ever done" at Grand Central Station:

Day #1 of Visit to the NYC office

February 18, 2008

I took the train in from Princeton, New Jersey this morning (spent the night at my childhood friend's house in Princeton, after recovering from a huge night out at TGI Fridays - with him, his wife, and adorable 2-year-old son, followed by an intense game of Scrabble where his British wife crushed us with words like "cheque" and other non-American, English words). I digress. It's a balmy 55 degree, overcast day in Manhattan and I'm loving the freedom of walking everywhere in this town.

I connected w/ Chris Masagatani, our NYC Director, at my hotel near Madison Square Garden and we walked to his interim office at ReturnPath - an awesome partner of ours. It's amazing what you can get done in just a few hours when you have uninterrupted time in person with someone. Chris and I went over updates on all of our NY region clients - roughly 40 of them. We made travel arrangements for him to come back to see us in April in P'town. We also went over a NYC-specific grassroots marketing campaign of reaching out to other bloggers in NYC in the marketing, interactive, and advertising industries.

Chris's blog is www.CrossPixelNation.com. It's barebones from a design perspective, but it will soon be a key asset to our NYC office.

We treated ReturnPath Exec Stephanie Miller out to a tasty lunch of Southern cooking nearby and caught up on the happenings within the email and interactive industry. Huge thanks again to Matt, Stephanie, and the ReturnPath team to making our entry into the NYC market so much more enjoyable than scrapping away and learning the hard way.

Another update. We hired an awesome NYC-dedicated account coordinator, Donald Law, in our Portland office and he's hitting the ground floor running this week.

If you still haven't clicked through to Chris's blog, here is Episode II of his video talents and impressions of the Big Apple after living here for the past 6 weeks:

Why I Love Asynchronous Communication (Email)

February 15, 2008

That title above was a mouthful, but I just wanted another reason to say why I love email. Email is addictive and can be overwhelming, but it's so nice to be away from email for 4 days on an unbelievable backcountry ski trip (see pictures below) and come back home, catch up on email, and not miss a beat. Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh! Nothing better than powder and face shots with 10+ feet of snow in the Wallowa Mountains - it's rustic, but there's nothing better. Check out www.wallowahuts.com!

EnglishBaby! Proves Engaging Email Content is King

February 14, 2008

I got this email yesterday from a company called EnglishBaby! that 'teaches' conversational English (via the slang of professional atheletes and Hollywood stars) to an online community of nearly a million people all over the world. The email was perfect - it had one clear call to action, a great concept of a videographer following two EnglishBaby! members that met online on EnglishBaby! and got married. Better yet, it was ultra relevant as it was sent to me the day before Valentine's Day. Crap - I almost forgot - I need to buy my wife roses and maybe a cool orchid before I get home from work today.

"To celebrate this day of love, we traveled to Istanbul for the wedding of two English, baby! members who met while learning English on the site. We hope you like the video!

Forward this message to your friends to wish them a happy Valentine's Day!"

Check out the video - it's awesome:
