Why Blog?
October 25, 2005
The folks at the American Marketing Association - Oregon asked me to speak on "The Truth about Blogs" and I was amazed by how much self-discovery and learning there was in the process of creating this presentation on "Why Blog" (PDF). The presentation highlights case studies like the Email Days Blog, and the substantially more impressive case study of 80 year-old Jack Klugman blogging on his Tony and Me Blog.
My colleague and co-presenter, Janet Johnson, VP Communications at Marqui, offers a fascinating perspective on the controversy surrounding Paying Bloggers. It's given Marqui massive exposure, but not all good. Janet is an excellent presenter who learned some valuable lessons during the eye of the storm of getting tremendous heat from bloggers and journalists covering the Blogosphere.

Casual Email Gone Too Far
October 23, 2005
A certain Mern(a), who I've never heard of before wrote me a memorable bit of SPAM the other day. What caught me by surprise was how casually it was written. Email is an informal medium, but c'mon - this takes it too far.

Subject: We got mad skillz~
Hola! Salud! & Greetings!!
Merna Reynolds here from StudioBard, sound and audio post. Man....I was checkin out some of your recent work and was thinking how we'd love to be workin on your sound!
There's nothing less like work than working on kewl projects! That's the GOOD STUFF! Recently we've been fortunate to be hashing out sound on the recent Miller High Life campaign, and did some stuff for the TV series the Dead Zone, as well as DIY's Totally Tricked out and VH1's driven. So as you can see....we've definitely got the street cred. But, what we'd really like to do is work with you all. I can fully hook you up with some great rates for the studio...we are ISDN capable....we have casting options, SFX for any medium, custom scoring and jingles.....you name it.
Cheers and Congrats!
~Mern

Ron Jeremy and Groan Tones
October 22, 2005
What do Virgin Mobile and Vodafone have in common? They are both co-presenting with Ron Jeremy at a tradeshow in Miami in January 2006 called the Mobile Adult Content Congress. This is a very serious tradeshow talking about the future of mobile phones, prepaid wireless, and other mobile technology that helps improve our quality of life.

I encourage you to check out Ron Jeremy's RJ Mobile website to see if it's the right service for you.

Sometimes, the best email is just One Web Link
October 14, 2005
I got a text email from a buddy of mine and all it had was a web link in it. Simple, boring email EXCEPT the website that it sent me to was MINT!
This "Obey Your Suit" website doesn't resonate with everyone, but it worked for me. I'm a 30 year old male in Portland, Oregon. I could care less about ever wearing a designer men's suit in my life, but the delivery of this carefully orchestrated video floored me. Enjoy!
